Upgraded iTunes to 7.7 this morning
Downloaded and installed Apple iTunes 7.7 this morning on the two Windows XP machines I have access to. I don’t yet have a Mac at home. I made sure to backup the two control files in My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music Library.xml and iTunes Library.itl first. I actually do this quite regularly since I have had earlier versions of iTunes corrupt these files before causing me to have to rebuild my library.
Ok what’s different?
So far the only thing I have found new or changed so is the Mail Accounts sync on the Touch device info tab.
Devices -> Touch -> Info Tab -> Mail Accounts has been added:
The options are Outlook and Outlook Express. I use neither of those and instead read my email from my own server or use Google Mail. But these only work online. I use IMAP on my own server but I could pop email to the device but choose not to for several reasons most of which it’s too large. I know the newly launched MobileMe service offers push email to the iPhone and iPod Touch so these offer locale mail sync to the device now which was not possible before.
I did not notice anything else different in the tabs. As of 7am ET as I write this 1.1.4 is still the current level for iPod Touch. The Webapp store has not yet opened and the OS 2.0 downloads are still not available as they are scheduled to open Friday (July 11) the so-called “Slurpee Day” (7-11).
I was not able to do a side-by-side comparison but I don’t notice anything different in the Edit -> Preferences tabs.
